Netflix is the largest online DVD club and has been renting DVDs by the mail for over 10 years now. These are the guys who brought us renting movies by mail. Netflix now has over 40 shipping centers throughout the U.S. for 1-2 day delivery times. Blockbuster has managed to take some Netflix customers because of their extensive advertising in 2007. Netflix and Blockbuster are pretty even when it comes to movie selection, delivery times, customer support, and pricing. Where they differ is Netflix offers instant streaming movies that you can watch on your computer and Blockbuster has free in-store rentals. DVD Avenue is one of the smaller online dvd rental services with just over 25,000 movies titles and only one shipping center in Maryland. You can expect slower movie delivery times with DVD Avenue, especially with newly released movies. DVD Avenue also doesn't have the option of watch movie instantly online like Netflix, or rent movies in-stores like Blockbuster. DVD Avenue does offer a couple things Netflix and Blockbuster don't offer, adult DVD rentals and game rentals.

GreenCine is another DVD rental site that calls itself "the place to find indie films". GreenCine has about half as many movies as Blockbuster and Netflix with 50,000 movies to choose from. They do have a great selection of independent, foreign,documentary, and cult classic films. GreenCine also offers adult films like DVD Avenue but no game rentals. Right now they are offing a 10 day free trial. Expect to wait a little longer for your movies then you do with Blockbuster or Netflix.

Final Thoughts - GreenCine is great for those hardcore indie film fans or frequent international movie watchers. If you're looking for more mainstream movies then Netflix and Blockbuster offer a superior product.
